Smart Filter De-Acid Module Acid Oil Philtration

|

|
An SBS Smart Filter De-Acid Module is a self-contained liquid de-acid system incorporating a dedicated pump, cartridge housing, and
controls all on a pre-piped, pre-wired skid. Our De-Acid module is installed downstream of the SBS Smart Filter
(which acts as a pre-filter, preferably at 25 micron or
better). Only 1 GPM is taken from the clean oil stream and
run across two Actived Alumina (AA) cartridges.
Activated Alumina filters adsorb acids and other
products of oxidation from hydrocarbon and synthetic oils. AA
cartridges are also commonly used to remove acid, soaps, and
particulate that can stain parts. AA also minimizes the
formation of gels and other precipitants when used to filter
phosphate-ester fluids to lower total acid number
(TAN). A TAN number exceeding 1.5 indicates staining may become a problem.
Unfortunately, there is no current method to
know the activated alumina cartridge is spent and needs to be
replaced. Consult SBS and let us advise a timed schedule
(i.e. once per week) to replace the cartridges. We do monitor
differential pressure so that if the cartridge becomes plugged, we will
advise a new cartridge. We highly recommend inexpensive 25
micron pre-filtering to protect the valuable AA
cartridge.
Each AA cartridge has approximately 12
1/2 pounds (5.7 kgs) of activated alumina. This cartridge can
reduce the TAN of 30 gallons of quench oil from 2.0 to 1.0.
If you have a 2250 gallon quench tank, such as a Surface Combution
Super 30 Allcase, it may take up to 66 cartridges to do similar
adsorption.
An optional BAG CRANE is available to help in filter changing.
